  12. After some requests I have translated this game from german to english.
  13. But there still is something to do:
  14.  
  15.   - the documentation is not translated (yet), but I hope
  16.     it soon will be done.
  17.  
  18.   - There is some text, that is directly encoded in the
  19.     dungeon data files. In order to translate it, it
  20.     is neccesary to rewrite a lot of functions. In other words:
  21.     I need to rewritte large portions of the program.
  22.     I fear, I have not the time to do that, but the
  23.     game should still be playable, because most of the
  24.     texts are sort of "Water is dripping on your head"
  25.     and are not necessary (i hope) to solve the game

  28. Please excuse my english - some sentences surely sound
  29. funny, but the translation of this game had to be
  30. done in my little spare time.

  32. In additon to that: The text output in the english
  33. version may look funny sometimes - i do not have the
  34. time to test it completly.

  36. To play the game:
  37. A)  Extract JDL.lha  - you should find now the files JDL, JDL.info
  38.     and JDL_1.lha.
  39.  
  40. B)  Extract JDL_1.lha to the destination directory, then copy
  41.     JDL and JDL.info to the destination directory.

  43. C)  Activate the english texts: see below

  45. D)  The game can be started by clicking on the item.

  49. There are several ways to activate the english language:
  50.  1) add the line
  51.  
  52.     #English
  53.  
  54.     in the file "jdl.cnf"
  55.  
  56.     If the file "jdl.cnf" does not exist, create a
  57.     textfile and include the line above.

  59.     This is the prefered method
  60.  
  61.  2) Alternatively, you can change the language in the
  62.     "Adventurers Guild", using the option
  63.     "Deutsche Texte -> English Text"

  65.  3) during the game by pressing the key T

  68. "Die Juwelen des Lichts" is a german fantasy-game, including
  69. a large world with 30 towns, over 30 dungeons, lots of monsters, spells
  70. and items.

  80. Jetzt aber zur Originalsprache:

  83.  - Wie man oben lesen kann...
  84.    Es gibt jetzt die Moeglichkeit, englische Bildschirmtexte
  85.    zu aktivieren. Es gab einige Anfragen nach einer Uebersetzung -
  86.    und so habe ich mir eben die Zeit genommen...

  88. Neu in V2.10
  89.  - Es gibt jetzt eine Option, um die Automappingkarten zu speichern
  90.    und beim spaeteren Betreten eines Dungeons wieder zur Verfuegung
  91.    zu haben.

  93. Nun zum Inhalt des Spiels
  94.    "Die Juwelen des Lichts" sind ein Fantasy-Spiel, in der Art der
  95.    bekannten Ultima-Reihe.
  96.    Geboten werden eine grosse Landschaft, 30 Staedte, ueber 30 dunkle Hoehlen
  97.    und Gewoelbe, viele Zaubersprueche, Monster und Gegenstaende.

  99. Voraussetzungen
  100.    Benoetigt werden mindestens OS 1.2 und 1 MByte Speicher, besser sind
  101.    aber OS 2.0 und mindestens 1 MByte Speicher
  102.  
  103. Installation
  104.    1) Entpacken des Archivs jdl.lha auf eine Disk oder Festplatte.
  105.       Dort befinden sich nun alle noetigen Dateien und das Icon
  106.       eines Installer-Skript
  107.    2) Die Installation auf Festplatte oder eine Diskette erfolgt
  108.       durch ein Installer-Skript. Einfach das Icon anklicken und der
  109.       Rest geschieht von selbst (zumindest beinahe...)
  110.    3) Die bei 1) entstandenen Dateien kann man nun wieder loeschen.

  112.    Der Installer wird ab OS2.0 mitgeliefert - wer noch Kickstart 1.x
  113.    benutzt, der sollte moeglichst schnell sein System auf den neuesten
  114.    Stand bringen und sich mit folgenden Installationshinweisen
  115.    begnuegen:

  117.       Beim Entpacken von jdl.lha erhaelt man das Hauptprogramm Jdl und
  118.       zwei Archive Jdl1.lha und Jdl2.lha.
  119.       Jdl1.lha enthaelt die absolut notwendigen Dateien, Jdl2.lha die
  120.       Zusatzgrafiken und Sounds.
  121.  
  122.       Das Hauptprogramm JdL und das entpackte Archiv JdL1.lha auch
  123.       eine Diskette mit Namen JDL-1 entpacken.
  124.       Dann kann man schon spielen.
  125.       Will man zusaetzliche Grafiken und Sounds, dann muss man Jdl2.lha
  126.       auf eine Diskette mit Namen JDL-2 entpacken und die Datei
  127.       Jdl.cnf_2DiskExt auf die Diskette JDL-1 kopieren und in JdL.cnf
  128.       umbenennen.

  130.       Zur HD-Installation entpackt man alle Archive in ein Verzeichnis,
  131.       ebenso das Hauptprogramm JdL und muss im Konfigurationsfile JdL.cnf
  132.       gegebenenfalls noch die Optionen #Sound und #Extended setzen

  135.       Es werden zwei Konfigurationsfiles mitgeliefert:
  136.       JDL.cnf_1Disk und JDL.cnf_2DiskExt
  137.  
  138.       Im Ein-Diskettenbetrieb muss man JDL.cnf_1Disk in JDL.cnf umbenennen
  139.       und in das Verzeichnis kopieren, in dem JdL installiert wurde
  140.  
  141.       Im Zwei-Diskettenbetrieb muss man JDL.cnf_2DiskExt in JDL.cnf
  142.       umbenennen und in das Verzeichnis der ersten Disk kopieren,
  143.       in dem JdL installiert wurde
  144.  
  145.       Zugegeben, das klingt umstaendlich (und ist es wohl auch), aber es
  146.       geht auch einfacher:
  147.     Entpackt die erste Disk und startet ohne etwas zu aendern, dann
  148.     laeuft es auch - wer aber Zusatzeffekte wie Sound und Extragrafiken
  149.     haben will, der muss die zweite Disk auch entpacken.

  151.     Zur Installations auf einer Festplatte kopiert man am besten alle
  152.     Dateien der beiden Disketten auf die Festplatte  und passt die
  153.     Konfigurationsdatei entsprechend an. Genaueres dazu findet man in
  154.     der Anleitung

  157. Hinweis
  158.    Auf Disk 2 sind die iff.library und die medplayer.library beigefuegt,
  159.    ich hoffe, dass ist in Ordnung - in den Dok-Files zu diesen Libs stand,
  160.    dass sie zu nichtkommerziellen Zwecken frei vertrieben werden duerfen.
